The single seater deck striker Yak-38 was developed on the basis of experimental Yak-36 VTOL aircraft. It was equipped with combined power plant: one cruise-lift and two lift engines.
After successful flight tests Yak-38 was put in serial production (more than 200 aircraft were produced) and delivered in service for Russian Navy.
The aircraft version Yak-38М featured more powerful engines, external fuel tanks and improved landing gear design.
